About This Series

While photographing in Lackawanna, NY steel mills, Milton saw a woman wearing a long shawl and head covering and asked if he could photograph her. His request was denied, but she suggested that he talk with the owner of a nearby grocery store. That store owner became Milton's entrée into a small Yemeni community. Milton was invited to photograph in their homes and at their place of worship. Included in the series are members of the community at work in nearby steel mills and foundries.
